As the Big Sky Fire Department is a combination fire department and employs both paid and volunteer staff, we recruit for both positions simultaneously: VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Looking to serve your community? Volunteer Opportunities Include: Employment Opportunities Support Staff: Member must successfully complete the Support Staff curriculum to assist the department on emergency scens. EMT-Basic: Member must be certified in the State of Montana as an EMT-Basic and meet requirements for operating as an EMT-Basic at the Big Sky Fire Department. Member must attend all trainings that are medical or rescue oriented (this includes certain fire trainings). This position includes the Support Staff curriculum. Driver Operator: Member must be certified by the Big Sky Fire Department to operate at a Level 1, Level 2, or Level 3 degree (depending on apparatus type). Member must attend all trainings that include the use of fire apparatus. This position includes the Support Staff curriculum. EMT-Basic/Driver Operator: Member must satisfy all aspects of the EMT-Basic position as well as be certified by the Big Sky Fire Department as a level 2 Driver Operator. This position includes the Support Staff curriculum. Firefighter: Member must satisfy all aspects of the Level 2 Driver Operator position. Member must attend all mandatory fire trainings at the Big Sky Fire Department. Member must successfully complete the Big Sky Fire Department Recruit Training Program. Member must be certified by the Department as a Vehicle Extrication Technician, at the Hazardous Materials Operations Level and as a Wildland Firefighter. Member must recertify annually in all aspects of this position. This position includes the Support Staff curriculum. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
To be eligible for employment as a paid, career firefighter at the Big Sky Fire Department, all candidates must successfully complete the most recent testing conducted by the Montana Firefighter Testing Consortium. This testing is typically held annually the first week of June annually. To apply for testing, please contact the Montana Firefighter Testing Consortium at http://www.mtfiretesting.org/. This list will be maintained until the next consortium testing is held.
